National Environmental Groups Endorse Mai Vang for Congress
SACRAMENTO— National environmental groups Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund and Food & Water Action are endorsing Mai Vang for California’s 7th Congressional District ahead of the June 2 primary election.
Vang is challenging incumbent Doris Matsui, who has held office for more than two decades. Unlike Matsui, Vang does not accept corporate PAC money and has pledged to put people ahead of corporate interests. She supports making polluters pay, expanding clean and renewable energy, protecting public lands, and investing in climate resilience. At this pivotal moment, her vision for a more progressive America is exactly the kind of leadership the Democratic Party needs.
Vang has signed the No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge.
“Mai Vang is exactly the kind of challenger District 7 needs as California grapples with escalating damage from wildfires, drought and other climate change-driven disasters,” said Rachel Rilee, deputy political director at the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund. “For too long, congressional leadership has settled for business as usual. We need leaders in Congress who are ready to challenge the status quo and fight to protect our public lands and make polluters pay for the climate destruction they’ve caused. Mai Vang is ready for that challenge.”
“Councilwoman Vang will fight against the corporations that are driving climate change, and driving up costs for Californians,” said Sam Bernhardt, political director at Food and Water Action. “Vang is the kind of leader we need in Washington to stand up for California’s working families and environment.”
The Center Action Fund is a national nonprofit organization that advocates for legislation and legislators that will advance a progressive environmental agenda. The Center Action Fund is the 501(c)(4) affiliate of the Center for Biological Diversity, but these organizations’ names are not interchangeable. This news release is from the Center Action Fund, not the Center for Biological Diversity.
Food & Water Action, the political and lobbying arm of the national advocacy group Food & Water Watch, mobilizes people to build political power to move bold and uncompromised solutions to the most pressing food, water and climate problems of our time. We work to protect people’s health, communities and democracy from the growing destructive power of the most powerful economic interests.
